POETIC JUSTICE

Friday, March 27th, 2009

Yesterday was one of those days were once again I was reminded of how thankful I am for the life I have and what Racing for Recovery has done for others.  I have 2 screenwriters in town from Orlando, Florida Rob (who I did not realize has been following my life since he was 12) and John who has a knack for knowing how to get the best out of me.  It has been amazing to work with these 2 and totally realize there is a spiritual connection to not only them personally but professionally as well.

On a side note, my friend and bookkeeper Mike drove in from Buffalo to learn first hand what are program is all about and in turn was involved with the “project” we are working on.  For me to see a man who was having trouble with booze learn about Racing for Recovery last July and now see the changes he has made is awesome.  What my story and this program has done and will do is great and there is no changing that and I am thankful for both.

I have created a fundraising page http://www.firstgiving.com/toddcrandellultraman for me doing Ultraman Canada and want to thank those who have donated to support it.  As I have found countless times, me doing these crazy events has inspired others to changes their lives and that is what it is all about.  It was also pointed out to me yesterday that how many people benefit from all that I and Racing for Recovery do that do not contact us.  In other words you never truly know the impact you can have on others.

Ok out for a run then more work with the screenwriters although you can’t really call this work as life is a blast.

Find your peace and roll with it.

JUNK FOOD when does it end?

Thursday, March 19th, 2009

Hey everyone,

Ok this post is intended to be funny and serious at the same time.  I just wonder when people go to the grocery store what is actually going through their heads, especially those who “try” to be healthy.  So you finish a weekly workout then head to the store and as you are walking down the isles do you say to yourself “hey this is good for my family” or “I have a craving for junk who cares if it is good for the family or not”

So here is a sample of what I have to choose from in our house. Are you kidding me?  Is this what I want my kids to start their day with or have in their lunch.  Imagine a Monday morning in the Crandell household and Skylar saying “hey dad fix me a bowl of Sugar Smacks” and then Konor adding for good measure “hey dad throw some Oreos in for my lunch”  My response?  ”That is junk, have a banana and get on the bus”

Ok Melissa was nice enough to make a cake for Konors Boy Scout competition.  Here is what is left of it.  Ya I have a problem with frosting and did not have any at the Boy Scout meeting but “lost” it when I came home.  I get so pissed at myself when I spend a ton of time taking care of myself by running, biking and swimming around the globe and then blow it by eating that crap.  Then the battle starts with me saying “Get this junk out of the house” and the response is “Don’t eat it”  That is true but just like the alcoholic should not have beer in the house to avoid drinking if you are “trying” to get or stay in shape you should not have the “junk” in the house.

Ok now lets take a look at an “Ultraman” meal.  Notice this gourmet feast I created today.  What does it consist of you ask?  Corn, black beans, onions, tomatoes, cheese and spinach leaves.  Now that is healthy and good for you.

My point to this rant is this, we all want our kids to be healthy mentally, spiritually, emotionally and physically right? So how is that going to be achieved if we buy the “junk’ shown above?

Use your heads people.

This last pic is me and Mason before the first 40 mile ride outside.  It is better than riding 40 miles in the garage anytime.

Here is an email I received from a friend of mine and I think it is hilarious.  The title of the email was WTF????????

Dude,

When I asked about Canada, I WAS F-ING JOKING!   Just read your blog and calendar.

Let me know your funeral date and I’ll be there!

As a coach, I’d NEVER recommend your schedule.   But, then again, you are a bit out there.

See you in June in Monroe.

Good luck in NO.  Don’t drink the water!

Coach Tim

Enjoy your day.

THANKS

Sunday, March 15th, 2009

Today is one of those days (our first here in Ohio with “awesome” weather for this time of year.  I took 3 of my great kids to the park and watched them ride bikes and then we all played basketball.  I was once AGAIN reminded of how thankful I am for this life I have and want to thank EVERYONE who has supported Racing for Recovery and me personally over the years.  I do not need to name you all individually because you all know who you are.

Also thanks to D.S for the Bret Michaels show last night.  It is great to do the things I love with a clear head with a great friend to laugh with.

To Shorty who is booking me to speak, do media and run the Sydney Marathon in Australia on Sept 20.  Thank you my friend.  I knew when I missed my flight coming over there for the Western Australia Ironman that there was a reason behind it and when I met you on the next flight I knew the answer.

Peace to all.

SPEAKING ENGAGEMENTS AND COUNSELING

Monday, March 9th, 2009

Hello all,

Just finished being finger printed for my PC (Professional Counselor) license and I must say being finger printed for a license is better than being arrested lol.

Yesterday we took the whole family to the UT basketball game for Konor’s boy scout group and had a blast.  I mentioned to my dad I wish I would have not ruined a hockey career that potentially could have lead to playing college hockey.  Watching those guys play ball and get an education, just reminded me of “that is how life should roll”

Things are good on the counseling level.  I love doing one on one counseling with people.  It is truly humbling to be told that I am helping someone overcome their obstacles.  Speaking engagements have been coming in lately as well and I am thankful for sharing my story and the Racing for Recovery message to as many people as possible.  Looks like October is going to be busy with gigs in New Jersey and Edmonton.

Some words of encouragement.  If you are currently using drugs and alcohol know this, you can stop and have a better life and if you have done that just be thankful for the life you have, I know I am.

Ok enough for now time to get on the bike.  Speaking of the bike here is a pic from Ironman Western Australia.  Notice the attire and keep in mind it was in the high 70’s for the race.  I guess my body was a little cooked from Ultraman Hawaii 6 days earlier eh? lol
