Madison Graduation

Monday, May 19th, 2008

The entries just keep pouring in lol. I want to say how proud I am of my daugher Madison for graduating from pre-school today. I love you my little girl and I am so proud to be your dad. You are going to grow up to be a sober, intelligent and caring person and that is all I can ask for.

I have to say I really did not think too many people read this thing and I guess it does not matter how many as long as they get something out of what is said. So to all of you who take the time to read this blog, I say thank you. Special note to my neighbor and coach of Skylar’s baseball team Brian, put down the smokes my friend you can do it and will be much happier for doing so.

Congrats to Eddie is now free and clear of all. The world is your oyster my friend. You have a clean slate so take full advantage of it.

We looked at a lifestyle center aka recovery house for women today and hope to have it open in 2 months. If you are interested in changing your life in a holistic manner please contact us.

Now that I have figured out how to put pictures up here take a look at these. Here is Madison, Mason, Melissa and I at Madison’s graduation and here is my finish from Ironman China.

I am so thankful for the life i have today and it is all to the choice I made on April 15, 1993 to stop using drugs and booze. If you want to change your life you have the ability to do so.

Softball and Will J

Sunday, May 18th, 2008

Hey everyone,

I have been doing alot of diaries lately eh? Here is the latest. Racing for Recovery has our own co-ed softball team and we have our first game on June 1. This is yet another activity for our members to be involved with and be with other sober individuals. It is awesome to see all of team members out there enjoying themselves with a healthy activity. Look closely at those Racing for Recovery shirts and I would like to thank Dena from Dena’s Designs for once again doing a great job on our garb. The shirts have in Memory of Eric J. Floyd on the sleeves as we will continue to keep Eric with us at all times and do our best to not let a tragedy like his drunk driving death happen again.

Couple of people to thank here. Wes for putting the team all together. Joe for coaching, Jo Jo’s Pizza for sponsoring and of course all of the players from Racing for Recovery.

I ask that all of you reading this keep my friend RJ and his family in your prayers. His son Will was recently diagnosed with Autism and my heart aches for the entire family. I thank God that I have 4 healthy kids and considering all of the garbage I put in my system it is a miracle they are all ok? I thank God everyday for them. Another reason to appreciate sobriety.

Enjoy your week.

Madison Biking

Wednesday, May 14th, 2008

I just want to say how proud I am of my baby girl Madion (5 years old) who started riding her bike without training wheels yesterday. She just said to me “daddy take of the training wheels” and so I did and boom she took off riding. To watch the smile on her face was pricelss and I was reminded of what life is all about. My job in this world is to be the best father I can to my kids and I am going to make sure that continues to happpen.

Finally got to ride outside yesterday with Eddie from our lifestyle house and Mike who financed the house for us. It was very windy but I did 55 miles and felt great. I felt great not only physically but emotionally as well as riding with some buddies and people that are being helped by racing for recovery is a good thing.

Ok off for a run then study for an exam I have coming up.

Enjoy your day and thanks to all who contacted me after my last post it means the world to me.

136

Monday, May 12th, 2008

Ya know not all times are good times in sobriety and I must say that this time sucks. I know my life has been an open book and I am sure at some point all of this will come out but right now I am keeping this absolute gut wrenching pain I am going through to myself. it is amazing to me that people close to you will constantly screw you over and then just basically say “get over it” I dont operate that way. Now I am not saying I am perfect God knows, I am a not even remotely close to that but I do not deliberately hurt others. If you are struggling with addiction listen up here. This is not and I repeat not and excuse to drinnk. These are thoughts and emotions we go through and a good friend of mine yesterday told me to “do the right thing” make the right choice” of course using is not the answer to our troubles and once again I will overcome and move on it is just going to be a rough go.

Good news out of all this mess? I dropped another 2 pounds and weigh 136 now. Keep the pain coming sunshine I love it.

Mother’s Day

Friday, May 9th, 2008

Hello everyone and Happy Mother’s Day to all of you moms out there. I would like to offer my thoughts and prayers to my friend Eric in Florida whose mom just passed away this week. He actually asked me to write a post about mothers so give credit where credit is due right? Thanks for the advice Eric.

I also want to say my thoughts are with Joanne Floyd who I cant comprehend what she is going through after losing her son Eric. God bless you Joanne and the whole Floyd Family.

I have been in 7 cities and 2 countries during the past 3 days and I am spent. Tonight I am home in my own bed and it is going to be nice. I speak in Fremont, Ohio tomorrow which I can drive to then home for next week for some local speaking stuff. I love this life but ya at times I get tired.

Happy Mothers Day special wishes to my step mom Cindy and my wife Melissa. Cindy (which by the way I hate calling her by her name like that) was awesome for what she had to deal with. I see alot of Melissa in her in how she takes care of our kids and this house. It reminds me of growing up alot. You both are great at what you do.

Again to all the mothers out there thank you for all you do.

Ok that is it for now I am beat and here is a couple pics from St. Croix.

Hello From St. Croix

Friday, May 2nd, 2008

Hey everyone,

It is simply beautfiul down here in St. Croix for the Half Ironman this Sunday. I am sitting out on our patio looking out to the ocean and thinking to myself what a great life I have and once again how it all began by simply choosing to stop drinking on April 15, 1993. It has taken over 15 years of CONTINUED sobriety to get to this point but it shows that if you stay true to what you believe in and never waiver from nay-sayers, thoughts of using or tough times that life will bring, you will achieve your hopes and dreams. On a marketing viewpoint, we have over 700 Racing for Recovery promotional pieces going in each competitors race bag. It is all about promotion and gettting our message out.

Yesterday was Melissa’s and Konor’s (7) birthdays. Happy d day to you both. Konor will will have our party next weekend when we get back. Melissa and I went running here yesterday and both commented on how hot and hilly the course is. For her first half ironman she is taking on one of the toughtest on the circuit but I know she can do it. That girl is tough not only physically but mentally as well.

While we were in Miami for a layover a couple noticed me from a television peace done at Ironman Arizona. They are from Canada and the husband Shannon is doing the race. He commented on how his step dad was really moved by seeing this program Racing for Recovery as he battled alcoholism for years. It was too late for him to turn it around as his body had already given out and he died not to long after seeing the story. It is sad to think that a life could have be saved becuase of this amazing philosophy we have and once again I am determined to keep going to prevent that from happening to someone else. It was great meeting you guys and thanks for your promotion of Racing for Recovery on your blogs.

Kevin Travis, one of our members who moved from New York after seeing the ESPN special and is now living in our Lifetyle Center was recently featured in his hometown newspaper about his recovery and how this program helped him achieve it. This is the type of stuff I love to see and that is the impact that we are having on other peoplel to help them and their families regain what was lost through an addiction. Cant wait to see you and Eddie and the rest of the guys cross the finish line at our half ironman on June 8 and then compete with you all at Ironman Western Australia on Dec 7.

The Racing for Recovery softball team is in full swing and I look forward to a great season of fun with all of members of our program experiencing yet another example of how good living a drug free life can be. Thanks to Jo jo’s pizza for sponsoring us.

I get home next Tuesday night at 11.30 then have to leave Wed morning at 7.30 to speak in Boston then back home then off to speak in Fremont, Ohio on Saturday. Love the crazy travel stuff and sharing the Racing for Recovery message.

Here is an update on the Racing for Recovery tv show. Everything has been cleared and we are waiting for one phone call from “the man” to begin filming. I am telling you alll right now that this show is going to save thousands of lives and give people HOPE. The people who have seen the promotional dvd have loved it and that includes all of the TNT people. Thanks to my friend Scott Sturgeon who read my story in the New York Times back in 2006. Without you none of this would be happening. Also thakns to everyone wo has helped me and this program get to where we are today. I completely humbled by the support you all give and do my best to give it back and help others.
