Skylar reading poem

Tuesday, December 27th, 2005

Hope you all had a nice Christmas and Santa brought you everything you asked for.

During the last Thursday support group my daughter Skylar read our closing poem. People always ask me what I will do to prevent my kids from getting involved in drugs and booze and this was a prime example of prvention. I said after she was finished “that is what sobriety is all about” To have my daughter read our poem and know what the mission of Racing for Recovery is makes me very proud of her and this program.

Have a safe and sober New Years Eve.

Giving Garb

Friday, December 23rd, 2005

Last night at our support group, I invited everyone up to the Racing for Recovery store and let them have any Racing for Recovery apparel they wanted. It was a pleasure to see people excited about wearing our merchandise to promote our program.

The Crandell family has had a bought with the flu and now my wife Melissa has it. She also had this two years ago on Christmas Day. I hope we are not starting a trend here.

I will be back in New York on April 18 and 19 to do book signings at The Greater Long Island Running Club and the Runner’s Edge. That community has been so supportive of Racing for Recovery and myself over the past few years and I am honored to be coming back again to promote our program and this book.

I hope all of you have a Merry Christmas and enjoy this time with family and friends.

Thanks for supporting Racing for Recovery.

Goalie Coaching

Saturday, December 17th, 2005

I was asked to run a goalie clinic for our local youth hockey leagues. I was honored to facilitate this program as I was once again reminded of how important it is to give back what you have been graciously given. I have always thought that hockey was one of the gifts I was given but I unfortunately did not embrace that gift and I ruined it because of my addiction.

I have received a number of requests from parents and coaches who were attendance for the clinic this morning to do private coaching lessons for their kids. I am honored to be asked to continue helping and will gladly do so anytime I can.

Just finished creating our new promotional flier. We will go through over 100,000 this year with placing them in big marathon and other running events. The purpose of this piece is to promote all things Racing for Recovery including speaking engagements, support groups, movie, book, 5k, half ironman and other things we do. I want to thank Metzger’s printing for all of their support in creating this great marketing piece.

My son had the flu, then passed it on to me and now my daughter Skylar has it so I have to go and take care of her.

Enjoy the day.

39 today

Monday, December 12th, 2005

Turned 39 today and I am thankful for yet another sober birthday. Had a nice dinne with my parents and grandma last night and today spent the day as usual working out, working and taking Skylar to hockey practice.

Thanks to all who wished me a happy 39th and thanks for all of those who came to our house for the support group meeting party last Saturday.

I just found out I am getting a 3.85 GPA in my master of counseling program. I think my college needs to improve their curriculum as I have not gotten those kind of grades in my life.

For those wondering if our half ironman will be usat sanctioned again this year, the answer is YES and their logo will be on our website in the next day or so. We are putting together promotional literature for the event and a mass mailing will go out shortly.

We are in need of sponsors and donations to cover our costs for the upcoming 2006 season. Please support this worthy program so we can continue carrying our message.

Enjoy your day.

Back From NY

Sunday, December 4th, 2005

I just returned from a very successful trip to New York First of all I want to thank my dear friends Kathy and Craig H for all they have done for Racing for Recovery over the past 3 years.

I did 4 pro bono presentations at the local high school and middle school to a total of 1800 students. My message was well received and I was impressed with the questions the students asked me. I gave out t-shirts, hats and bracelets to help promote our program. I also had the opportunity to participate in their 4 mile run which was fun as well.

I did a national 1 hr long radio interview on Stepping Out last night. I want to thank Drew and the rest of the gang for allowing me to share my story and the Racing for Recovery program.

Book pre-sale orders are coming in from New York, Washington DC and North Carolina. Thanks for your support everyone and I will get your copy out to you as soon as I receive my personal copies.

Having big problems with my psyiatic nerve again which has made running very difficult lately. I have been down this road before and I hope it goes away soon.

Enjoy your week and remember “With Sobriety Anything is Possible”
